About BrandonI remember the night so vividly...you had just taken a bath with your sister Alyssa and you smelled like fresh baby lotion. I had put on your warm cozy jammie's with the little doggies on them and your soft blonde hair was still damp from the bath. I could hear "The Wiggles" DVD playing in the family room where your sister was watching while I prepared you for bed. We sat in the corner of your room with the lights dimmed as I prayed the rosary over you while you sipped your milk from your sippy cup. You only had a few words in your vocabulary so I loved hearing you say "done" when you were finished drinking your milk. I kissed your precious cheek, whispered in your ear "I love you" and then placed you to sleep in your crib. That next morning on March 19, 2008, our lives changed forever...our baby, Brandon George Cagle, went to be with Jesus. Brandon was a healthy 17 month 20 day old boy when he went to sleep and never woke up. We miss him terribly and find ourselves asking why??? What happened??? The only answer anyone could give us is SUDC (Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood). I, Brandon's mother, am not only a SUDC mother but I am also a practicing nurse. When Brandon died I found that very few individuals (including medical professionals) here in Bakersfield were unaware of this diagnosis. So, as a mother and nurse I have decided to dedicate my efforts to include the following: educate this community on SUDC; raise money to help the CJ Foundation for SIDS/SUDC as well as keeping the legacy of my son Brandon. On behalf of my husband, Jake, myself Lauren and our 3 other children Alyssa (6 years old), Matthew (2 years old) and Hannah (1 year old), want to thank you for your continued support in making Brandon and Katie's Run for a Reason a great success. May God Bless You! |
